GTrends Checker Explained

Written on August 28, 2007 – 2:45 pm | by Srijit |

Here is a brief and i hope complete, explanation of the various bits and pieces that make up the GTrends Checker.

I’ll now be posting additional meta info for all my posts to make things even easier. What this means that in each post from now on, i’ll be classifying it as to whether the information in the post applies to newbies or skilled people. That can help people to decide whether to try the things mentioned in the post at all. So lets roll.

Experience level: All
Learning Curve: almost none
Used for: Finding out approximate traffic that you can expect from Google for a keyword

Needless to say, you have to download the GTrends Checker from this blog and unzip it to a folder. There is no installation required, it is a stand alone program and will run on any Windows system. It has got a settings file which can be edited to suit your needs. Edit the settings file with notepad.

First off you want to enter your keywords into the text area provided on the left. You can get good keywords lists from many sources like the Free WordTracker tool and the now defunct Overture index, or just enter any keywords that you like. The limit is set to 30. This is because i do not intend to release this as a spamming tool or query Google un-necessarily.

The next step would be to press the Start button at the bottom.
The Export button exports checked keywords into a file called keywords.txt.
The Google button opens up a web browser with the currently selected keyword in the list
The Google Affilate button shows you any affiliates for the product or niche keyword that you have selected in the list

Here is a screenshot of the results. As the program is running, try to let it run un-interrupted. Dont try to scroll or click other buttons. Even if you are doing 30 keywords at time, it finishes quite fast, so please be patient.

You might see that some fields are colored and bolded. The values that change this are in the settings.ini file. Currently it shows green and bold for daily Hits between 1000 and 2000, Total number of Google Pages less than 32,000. Web 2 sites tab shows you if there are any Web 2 sites in the Google results for your keyword. This is useful to know for people who want to do SEO instead of PPC. If there are a lot of Web 2 sites for that keyword, it might not be worthwhile doing SEO for that Keyword.

To see the Web 2 sites that are present for a keyword, take a look at the screenshot below. Just click on the required keyword in the list and you will see the sites in the text box at the bottom.

I hope this clarifies some of the mysteries behind the GTrends Checker program. If you have any doubts, please make a comment and i will try to clarify it.

Cheers,
